LUYHA Governors DEMANDS Uhuru STOP JOKES with Mulembe People, Sugar deal MUST be STOPPED!

Kakamega Governor Wickliffe Oparanya has joined other governors from Western in telling President Uhuru to stop taking certain parts of the country for granted. President Uhuru in a trip to Uganda signed sugar deals allowing Uganda to import Sugar to Kenya in exchange of milk and meat. Governor Oparanya wondered how the president could enter into such a destructive argument when he recently released Ksh 1 billion to rescue Mumias. “Following the President’s acknowledgement of sugar from Uganda to enter Kenya in exchange of other products, time has come for leaders, especialy from the larger Western Kenya, and those of goodwill to join hands in saying no to this bilateral trade. It is just two months when H.E the President and H.E the Deputy President brought KShs.1B to Mumias Sugar Company in efforts to help revive the giant miller. We are aware that the President will be in Nzoia Sugar Company soon with a package to have the company back to the competitive platform in the sugar industry. Other Sugar Companies in the larger Western Kenya are in dire need of the same support. As we count months to the opening of the COMESA market for sugar in Kenya, after postponing it several times, the move by H.E the President is untimely and it may lead to collapsing most local millers. As Governors from sugarcane planting regions plan to engage the President on this matter, I call upon Hon. MPs from Western and across Kenya to move with speed to have this trade discussed on the Floor of the House and see to it that it does not materialise, for the sake of the poor farmer.”
