ANGRY Museveni AUCTIONS Raila’s potrait in a Uganda Harambee

In a worrying sign of deteriorating relationship between Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni and CORD Leader Raila Odinga, President Museveni is said to have auctioned a portrait of Raila Odinga at a harambee, the same portrait he bought years back when PM Odinga presided a function at Busoga University.

Museveni is using the sugar deal with Kenya, which Odinga has opposed warning it will kill western Kenya sugar sector, to pitch for his next year’s re-election.

While in Kenya President Uhuru and his regime seem to be running away from the deal, going by the constant denials that no deal was signed, President Museveni is using the deal to prove his negotiating power on behalf of Uganda.

Museveni is facing perhaps the trickiest electoral campaign in his 30 year reign as fallout within his party and the move by his former strong ally turned opponent Prime Minister Amama Mbazazi has re-energized the opposition.

Mr. Odinga is yet to respond to Museveni’s remarks and the portrait issue though ODM Secretary General Ababu Namwamba hit out at Museveni over meddling in Kenya’s internal affairs.

Odinga maintains the sugar deal does will not benefit both Uganda and Kenya farmers as the sugar does not come from Uganda but Brazil and will only benefit sugar barons in the two countries.
